Chair of Reflection

The Chair of Reflection is a new unique, funky and crazy metal chair from Ashwinstudio. It is created from metal tubing and metal boules with a ground reflective finish. The powder coat clear lacquer finish has been backed on and is very hard wearing. The transparent lacquer also allows the carefully made grind marks to shine through, reflecting the sun and surroundings and that, along with the quirky design, make the chair come alive.

New metal furniture design - B-Chair

The B-Chair is created entirely from steel tubing is welded together to form the organic sculptural shape. I am very pleased with this chair, which is surprisingly comfortable to sit on, and intend to make several variations and sets.

This chair is available to purchase or you can commission your own bespoke item of furniture.

Tube Chair

Been a while since I posted but I have busy exhibiting and creating new work. One of which is this Tube Chair created entirely from steel tubes that are welded together.

From the very start I wanted to create a unique chair that would work as a sculpture and function as a chair. And instead of using the same lengths of tubing I cut them to various lengths as I believe this adds more interest to the finished work and makes visually appealing from all angles.

The V-Bench

Here is new photo of the V-Bench, created from reclaimed girders and mahogany draw runners. If you like to see more of our work then visit Ashwinstudio.

Circadian - Glass Table

Circadian glass table, designed and built by Ashwinstudio, is created from reclaimed engine parts and scrap steel tubing. It is topped by a hardened glass top that is also reclaimed. However, we can supply a new glass top to your specification and if you would like to purchase this table or another item or commission your own unique furniture then contact Ashwinstudio.

A Taste of Orange - Metal Table

I wanted to create a table that would not only be functional but also work as a work of art - a sculpture, a painting and a decorative object. Once again it is made from recycled metal tubes and plate that have been shaped and sculpted.

The table is finished with a durable powder paint that is a bright summer orange. Finally, I hand painted the table top with vibrant enamel paints that also add to the citrus theme.

Bomford Garden Bench

The Bomford bench is sure to be a talking point for your garden.

The Bomford bench created from scrap farm parts including a Bomford flail skid (the seat), New Holland Combine dividers (the back rest) and shock absorder springs. We have kept the finish as bare metal coated in a clear lacquer.

Metal Art - Lantern

Finally got round to taking some new photos of a Ashwinstudio lantern / metal candle holder created from found objects – mostly car parts such as gears and cogs. It is a bit of industrial art designed to hold a candle.

Boule Table - Contemporary Table

This contemporary metal table is created from scrap roll cages and French boules. The painted top, which I treated as I would a painting, was created from grinding into the metal and applying successive layers of car spray paint, to preserve this finish I have used a clear metal sealer and lacquer.

Modern Sculptural Bench

Finally managed to finish the V-Bench which we have been working on, on and off, for some months. Have to contend with a number of problems from eco glue not sticking and welds getting too hot and metal bending. However, I think the final product is well worth the wait. It is created from metal girder offcuts that have been welded to gether to form the 'V'. The bespoke top is made from recycled mahogany draw runners by artist Loukas Morley.

Contemporary Table - By Loukas Morley and Ashwinstudio

Artist's Loukas Morley and Ashley Baldwin-Smith have collaborated to create this contemporary table. Ashley fabricated the frame from recycled metal frames - supplied by Loukas. The beautiful table top is one of a series created by Loukas.

Funky metal outdoor chair - The Boule Chair

I reclaimed the metal tubing from scrap roll cages, then selected and cut sections I liked the shape of and added additional bends to get the flowing organic shape I was after. Also, as I cleaned the tubing up I really liked the polish and grind marks so continued it across the entire chair and to preserve this finish I have used a clear metal sealer and lacquer. The metal balls welded on the feet and arms are from a second hand French boule set (otherwise known as pétanque).

Austen Mini Stool - recycled furniture

Created from car parts including three Mini camshafts and Mini Cooper steering wheel. We are close to finishing a glass topped table also using mini parts.

Much of the furniture is available by request in, lacquered, chromed or powder coated finish and we can arrange the paint colour of your choice. In addition, for glass topped tables and coffee tables we can either supply reclaimed toughened glass or have it prepared to your requirements. However, the price difference can be considerable - depending on colour and thickness.

Ashwinstudio also offer a bespoke service where you can commission us to create a sculpture or item of furniture from particular parts for example the Mini Stool. Just gives us a call or drop us an email and I'm sure we can help.

Bespoke Contemporary Furniture

Ashwinstudio offers a range of reclaimed furniture from tables and stools created from engine parts to organic chairs made from metal tubing or coffee tables made from steel girders.

Design principles and an ethical mission
As with the majority of my sculpture, our furniture is created largely from reclaimed and recycled materials and objects. More often than not this means asking for or purchasing scrap metal and objects from farms, engineering workshops, garages and charity shops. This can take the form of girders, metal tubing, metal bar and angle, engine parts and all sorts of wonderfully interesting objects. We also use a range of table tops (depending on how the artwork develops) from reclaimed toughened glass or new if requested, to reclaimed wood or metal and paint finish.

The beauty of working with reclaimed materials is every piece is different and exciting and takes on a life of its own. And of course it is environmentally friendly. However, I am not jumping on the green bandwagon as I have been working with reclaimed materials for over 15 years.
Every individual work is carefully thought through and created as a work of art and not just a piece of furniture. And in this I have always been a huge fan of functional art or tribal art (controversially named as Primitive Art and in my view far from primitive!) produced by indigenous cultures of Africa, Americas and Oceania.
